About this ingredient
EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) is a long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) containing 20 carbon atoms and 5 double bonds. It is naturally present in fatty fish, fish oil and certain marine oils and is also available from some algae-based sources.
EPA is an important component of omega-3 nutrition and is involved in lipid metabolism and cell-membrane biology. EPA has been extensively studied in relation to cardiovascular health, triglyceride levels and inflammatory signaling. It is commonly combined with DHA in fish-oil supplements, although some products provide EPA as the primary omega-3.
The amount and form of EPA can vary substantially between products. Wellmart.pk product listings should clearly state the EPA amount per serving, whether it comes from fish oil, krill oil or an algal source, and whether EPA is provided as triglyceride, phospholipid or ethyl-ester form when relevant.
