About this ingredient
Collagen is the most abundant structural protein in the human body and is an important component of skin, bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues.
Collagen is made primarily from amino acids including glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. The body naturally produces collagen, but production and tissue turnover change with age and other physiological factors.
Collagen supplements are commonly produced from animal-derived connective tissues. Hydrolyzed collagen, also called collagen peptides, is enzymatically broken down into smaller peptide fragments to improve solubility and ease of use in foods and supplements.
Different collagen types have different tissue distributions. Type I is abundant in skin, bone and tendons, while Type II is particularly associated with cartilage. Type III is commonly found alongside Type I in skin and other connective tissues.
Collagen products are widely used in the Pakistan nutraceutical market for skin, beauty, joint, bone and connective-tissue nutrition.
